Forward to device when iOS app installed?

I have a bit of confusion about phone setup. I have the iOS app installed, receiving calls, everything is fine. But I also have the "forwarding number" selection checked in Your Settings -> Your Devices.
It seems like I should have one, or the other, but not both -- right?

Totally get where the confusion comes from—the idea is that by adding your forwarding number and having the iOS app, you're able to:
- Switch between your carrier service and HD (WiFi) service
- Receive calls even when Dialpad is down
- Have a choice between placing outbound calls with carrier vs HD service
